Get Up to $10,000 in Solar Rebates (before it’s gone)

BC Hydro Rebate Electrician

If you’ve been thinking about installing solar panels or adding battery storage to your home, this is something you’ll want to pay attention to.

Right now, BC Hydro is offering up to $10,000 in rebates for eligible residential solar and battery systems — but important changes are coming April 1, 2026.

Here’s what you need to know.

How Much Can You Get?

Solar Panels

  • Up to $5,000

  • $1,000 per kilowatt (kW) of installed capacity

  • Capped at 50% of total installed cost

  • Maximum rebate: $5,000

Battery Storage

  • Up to $5,000

  • $500 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of installed storage

  • Minimum size: 5 kWh

  • Capped at 50% of total installed cost

You can install:

  • Solar only

  • Battery only

  • Or both (to maximize your rebate)

⚠️ What’s Changing April 1, 2026?

Starting April 1, 2026, the battery rebate structure changes:

  • Up to $5,000 for batteries enrolled in the Peak Saver program

  • Up to $1,500 for eligible batteries paired with solar but not enrolled in Peak Saver

  • Battery-only systems not enrolled in Peak Saver will no longer be eligible

Applications submitted before April 1, 2026 will be reviewed under the current rebate amounts.

So… is the rebate getting smaller?

For some homeowners, yes.

If you install a battery but don’t enroll in Peak Saver, the maximum rebate drops to $1,500 instead of $5,000. That’s a significant reduction.

If you plan properly and enroll in Peak Saver, you can still access the higher rebate.

How the Process Works

  1. Review eligibility requirements.

  2. Find a contractor.

  3. Apply for the self-generation program before installing.

  4. Wait for pre-approval.

  5. Install your system.

  6. Submit final inspection documents.

  7. Receive rebate (typically within 30–45 business days after approval).

Your system must be approved to connect to BC Hydro’s grid through their self-generation program to qualify.
